If you are on the lookout for a high-end gaming display that you don’t want to spend a lot of money, then this Viotek GN34CW review will throw some light on this latest Viotek gaming monitor. This monitor is aimed at high-end gamers who want a dedicated display for their everyday gaming needs.
For the price, the Viotek GN34CW gaming display comes with a very good set of specs. The hero is the 100Hz refresh rate and the quad HD resolution that offer a fluid gaming experience. From the looks, this looks like a super high-end gaming monitor that costs you more than $500, but that’s not the case. Does that mean this monitor is worth the price? Is it good enough for every kind of gaming? We answer these questions and more in the detailed review below.
Design and Features
The design of this Viotek GN34CW monitor is very modern. At this price point, it kind of surprises us that we are getting such a neat design. The display comes in a nice shade of white that makes maintenance a bit difficult. The first impression of this monitor is just fantastic. The silver accents in the display is a nice touch and it gives it a premium look and feels.
The bezels surrounding the display or almost non-existent on three sides and is only found on the bottom. This is a beautiful design and gives us an immersive visual experience. The fact that this is a curved display only adds more elegance to this gaming monitor.
The main material used for construction is plastic. Using plastics for gaming monitors in this price range is quite normal. But we do have a feeling that Viotek could have slightly cheaped out when it comes to the selection of plastic. Since this is a gaming monitor, you are not going to be flexing it or playing with it roughly. So questions about your ability shouldn’t be that big of a concern.
This display is a 34“ ultra my display and it is going to need a lot of space on your table. The stand itself is a bit too long for our liking and takes more space than competing gaming monitors. While we don’t have any serious concerns with the design, having a bright white gaming monitor might distract your friends from your RGB gaming rig (hey, this matters if you’re a showoff).
Talking about the stand, we have an aluminum stand that is quite sturdy. It holds the monitor well and gives us some essential features that you usually don’t find in affordable gaming monitors. You can adjust the height of the monitor to suit your needs and can also suitable it right and left. You can tilt the display forward and backward as well. Since this is a curved display, having a pivot doesn’t make any sense and they have avoided it rightly.
The display, along with the stand, weighs around 17.5 lbs. Without the stand, the display weighs around 15 lb which makes it easy to carry around. You can also mount the display on the wall as it comes VESA compatibility. All you need is a VESA mount and you can easily screw this display to the wall.
The on-screen display controls can be accessed with the help of buttons that are found in the middle under the bottom bezel. We are glad that Viotek did not go with the joystick as it could become tedious especially when you don’t have a lot of light. The display does not give you a lot of options to meddle with so using these buttons is more of an occasional thing.
When it comes to connectivity, there are limited options on the Viotek GN34CW gaming display. You get a display port, an HDMI port, and a DVI port. These ports are handy when it comes to connecting this gaming monitor to a gaming PC or a gaming console. But we do feel that Viotek missed an opportunity to include more ports so that they could have an edge over its competitors.
Let’s talk about the performance of this Viotek GN34CW gaming display. By this time you would have known that this is a 34“ ultra-wide curved gaming display that comes with a resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels. The display comes with a VA panel that split our team when it comes to picture quality. The VA panel is not as good as an IPS panel but is a lot better than a TN panel.
The image quality of the display is pretty good when viewed from right in front of the display. The viewing angles are impressive but not as good as the ones you would get in an IPS display. The display comes with 1800R curvature which is not that noticeable but once you start using the display, you can’t live without it.
One of the major selling points of this gaming monitor is the 200Hz refresh rate. This refresh rate offers a smooth viewing experience and also helps in getting very little motion blur when you are gaming. The monitor also comes with a 4 ms response time which is a pretty good one and helps in reducing ghosting to a minimum. These two specs are very handy when it comes to playing fast-paced games and high octane action games.
The maximum brightness of this gaming display is around 300 nits. This brightness level is quite impressive considering the price point of this display. You will be spending most of your time using this monitor in a well-lit room and this brightness will be effective when it comes to combating that light. The display also gets quite dim which is very good for your eyes when you are playing in complete darkness.
The Viotek GN34CW gaming monitor comes with a contrast ratio of 3100:1. This is what we see on the spec sheet at the highest brightness. But around 50% brightness, the contrast ratio drops to around 2850:1. This is pretty good considering the price of this monitor. Most budget monitors have a contrast ratio of around 2000 or 2500 to 1. In comparison, this gaming monitor does a pretty good job.
The VA panel does well when it comes to covering various color gamut. It covers 100% of the SRGB color gamut with some extensions. This makes this gaming laptop a good one for editing photos and videos as well. The DeltaE value of the monitor out of the box is pretty decent around 2.6. You can calibrate the monitor to get a much-improved value but it won’t be necessary in everyone’s case.
The monitor comes with support for FreeSync but it is not fully compatible with G-Sync. If you are not aware of these terms, FreeSync is something you get with AMD graphics cards while G-Sync is associated with Nvidia. Full support for these features means you will get a fluid gaming experience as the refresh rates of both the GPU and the monitor come in sync.
Viotek GN34CW Review – Wrap up
If you want to start gaming on a budget, you won’t be able to spend a lot of it on the monitor itself. You need a decent gaming desktop or a gaming console that will allow you to play the games you love. If this situation sounds familiar, the Viotek GN34CW gaming display should get your attention. This is a beautifully designed gaming monitor that comes with a very impressive array of specs.
When it comes to performance, the Viotek GN34CW does a fantastic job for the price. The VA panel is not as good as an IPS panel but it gives you quality images and delivers a pretty impressive gaming performance. If you’re looking for a gaming monitor that gives you 1440p resolution and reliable gaming experience, then this one is a very good choice.
